Beware of being a target for burglars

Ladymoyle writes "

Having never experienced anything other than peace and relaxation when in Lagos [and I've been over 9 times in the last 10 months] I was horrified when friends who are staying in our place phoned last night to say that they had been burgled. By the time the Police had finished taking statements and fingerprints they were told that it is more than likely that they were 'stalked' for a few days before becoming the target. They lost all cash, jewellery, designer gear, expensive cosmetics, aftershave, alcohol, and all the shampoo and conditioner that was in the bathroom.  Nothing else was touched - well except for the nutella in the fridge, seems they were partial to chocolate spread and made a sandwich!! Everything was packed into two suitcases and vanished.

They have been in Lagos since the beginning of July and this has spoiled an otherwise great break.  They were eating out most nights round the better resturants in Lagos and strolling the Prom - where they were obviously picked out as having potential!!  Seems that the gang follows you back to identify the apartment and then watch for a routine over the next day or two.

I'm due back out on the 17th and the first place I'm going is a locksmith closely followed by looking for someone to install a security system.

Moral of the story - you may be on your holidays, but please be on your guard - don't over do the bling and designer gear.

Sorry to hear about your friends misfortune, I have lived here in lagos for over 3 years now & I personally have yet to experience any form of crime, geshhhh I've not even seen a bar brawl spill out into the street, infact I've always found Lagos to be a relaxed crime free place to live, I canna help but wonder if these robers where themselfs visiting the area, I do know the crime rate does increase in the summer peak months but I always thought this was relivant to the increase in population espcially during july and august but then again I suppose everywhere has crime. Anyways I want to say I was sorry to hear about your friends & I hope your visit is relaxed & stress free.
Regards Gareth.
