Porto dé Mós - Walking Tour
Porto de Mos and Praia da Luz
Beyond Ponta da Piedade lies the secluded beach of Porto de Mos which can be accessed by way of a footpath to the inland side of the lighthouse at Piedade. Although the Porto de Mos area is undergoing rapid development, this little beach still offers peace and seclusion to those who seek it.
Antonio’s beach bar & restaurant provides an excellent view whilst dining and is also your last watering hole should you undertake the spectacular cliff walk to Praia da Luz, the neighbouring resort.
Directions to Luz are not really necessary as, from behind Antonio’s, one merely follows the cliff top in a Westerly direction. It should, however, be pointed out that the cliffs are subject to fairly severe and constant erosion and that the descent into Luz is a steep one; care should therefore be taken and the walk should only be undertaken in daylight hours - allow two hours each way to be comfortable.
Once in Luz, you will find a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants and, as everywhere on the Algarve, a warm and genuine welcome ! As there is a regular local bus service between Luz and Lagos, it is possible to walk one way and ride back - you’ll find the bus stop in Luz close to the yellow and white church of Nossa Senhora da Luz in the centre of the village.
